• Do we want / need 1.5 million people in Canterbury?
  • If so, what does that look like for our region?
  • Who benefits? Who doesn’t?
  • What would it mean for our houses? Our communities? Our transport systems? Our schools? Our healthcare and social services? Our regional governance? Our rural / urban divide?
In summary, what does it mean for our regional prosperity? Canterbury @ 1.5 is committed to asking these questions and encouraging a conversation. On current projections, Canterbury’s population could grow by 2043 to 895,500 people (high projection), 767,300 people (medium projection), or 641,000 people (low projection).
